The Symposium is an event where value investors share practical advice, ideas, and company analysis in a friendly forum with feedback. The format is similar to a TED-type talk followed by an open Q&A. The idea is to recreate an earlier time in history when a much smaller group of investors shared ideas for hours in a relaxed atmosphere before the Fairfax Financial annual meeting (see history below).
This year's Symposium will occur from 8:30am-1:00pm. If you're interested in attending, please reserve a spot via the email button below. Indicate whether you'd like to be a presenter, or observer. Those who want to present should include a brief biography, a potential idea, or topic, they want to talk around. Sign up early because the Symposium will be limited to a maximum of 30 participants with presenters favored. Plus, the winning presentation will be invited to present at the Fairfax Shareholder Dinner.

In 2015, group of like-minded value investors reached out to each other with the purpose to create a forum discussing value investing as practiced and to get back to real company analysis. In part, this effort was due to the success of the Fairfax Financial annual meeting maturing into a larger event every year and affording less and less time to re-connect with our old acquaintances and also have an allotment of time to make new connections. More importantly for analysts, less time to share ideas like years ago when a few came early to Toronto to sit in the back of the old Joe Badaldi's restaurant on Front Street for hours, or until the staff kicked us out.
Why the YYX? Some may have attended or heard of the good work at the ValueX events in either Klosters, Switzerland or Vail, Colorado where the format is similar to a TED type talk followed by a brief Q&A from group participation. As such, could not resist the Toronto Pearson airport code (YYZ) and replaced the Z with an X for the mathematical exponential connection to expanding our idea capacity (website does not have a mathematical exponent text feature). Hence and for folks that will be in Toronto early for the Fairfax Financial annual meeting activities in April, we have again scheduled this event prior to the Fairfax Financial annual meeting.
